This project for the tourism entity in Argentina aimed to address accessibility challenges on their website, mandated by national laws requiring public institutions to ensure website accessibility. The client faced issues with color contrast, typography, and HTML tagging, which posed barriers for users relying on screen readers and other assistive technologies. Site Analysis and Error Report We began with a detailed analysis of the website, identifying visual and code errors affecting accessibility. A comprehensive report was compiled and presented to the client for approval. Information Architecture Refinement A major concern was the complex and lengthy information architecture. To streamline navigation, we conducted benchmarking of other government tourism websites and performed tree testing to optimize the site's structure. This led to a redesigned architecture with clearer section names and improved usability. Redesign Implementation Once the new architecture was approved, we proceeded with the redesign phase. Our focus was on simplifying and organizing content, including the integration of filter options in the database to enhance user access to relevant information efficiently.
Key Steps: • Improved Information Organization: Restructured the site for better clarity and accessibility, facilitating easier user navigation. • Navigation Enhancement: Implemented breadcrumbs across pages to aid users in tracking their location and navigating back easily. • Highlighting Key Information: Emphasized important content such as buttons and maps for enhanced visibility and usability. • Accessibility Enhancements: Enhanced color contrast and ensured all icons/images were labeled for compatibility with screen readers. • Responsive Design: Designed the site to be fully responsive, optimizing user experience on tablets and mobile devices.
